Never did I think this day would come.
Or at least not for a few more years.
But Coach Carroll is gone. After rumors swirling about potential NFL gigs nearly every year after his initial success, rumors built up quickly yesterday.
It scared me that the rumors yesterday included “mutual” interest between the Seattle Seahawks and Coach Carroll.
And then later in the night, word got out that Seattle offered Coach a 5 year, $35 million deal to be the head coach and team president. $7 million per year just may be a little too much for him to turn down.
ESPN is now reporting that Coach Carroll and the Seahawks have agreed in principle to the deal.
I woke up to this news this morning. My heart stopped. My future shuffled through my mind.
It’s reality. But it hasn’t sunk in yet.
While many stars have shuffled through USC in the past decade, it was Coach Carroll that provided a constant stability of success.
He forged an energy that echoed through the program. He brought a winning attitude, a cool persona, and a firm set of philosophies to USC.
His fire and energy, his passion, and his child-like fun he was having was something I related to.
He was an incredible coach. He was fire on the field. And a character off it.
This comes to a complete shock to all of us. And it’s hitting some of us hard. He definitely had an opportunity to create a legacy for himself as a head coach at USC.
I’m sorry to see him go. He will be missed. Greatly missed.
Goodbye Coach Carroll.
